Links to lyrics located at bottom of page. As early as three years of age, I was singing as a way of life. I remember singing in the car, the bus, at camp, walking down the street with friends, with my sisters, singing and dancing to Jackson Five records. I remember particularly singing along with "Winchester Cathedral" in my Grandmother's basement with a pretend microphone when I was about four years old. As I got more into composing, I started to write songs. Many of them are songs without words, but I have included some of the songs with words here. The catalog also has many others listed. If you are curious about any of these, please write, and I will send some along to you! I have been fortunate to teach music throughout the years in
many different capacities, such as theory, improvisation, piano, as well as
music and movement for young children. In the 1980's I worked with piano
students who also would create little musical theatre pieces together. One
piece I remember fondly, was "Ananabdum", which means Bananamud, backwards.
One of the students wrote the music, several created the story, and another
played the piano (now a professional musician in New York!). They performed
it at the American
Women Composers Marathon . It was such a joy to work with such young creative
minds. When I moved to New York, my first music job was teaching preschool
music. After that, I was considered a Pre-K music expert by default, and
spent many years teaching pre-K music and movement. When I worked at the
Brooklyn Conservatory
of Music, over a six year period I wrote many songs for my classes. Many
were written on the subway before class. I would try them out on the children
and find out which ones worked. Here is a selection of a handful of songs
I wrote during that period. The GHMS Songs refers to songs I taught at
the Greenwich
House Music School "Music Art and Play" program. Feel
free to write for the scores, and I'll send them along or hum them to you on
the phone! These are meant to be shared, so pass them along, try on your students
and enjoy! • Accepting All Children's Songs |
